Diabetes insipidus (DI) is a disorder in which an abnormal increase in the production of urine, liquid prerecording is frequently and thirst. It is caused by a deficiency of antidiuretic hormone, also known as vasopressin, or a kidney insensitivity to the hormone. It may also be iatrogenically induced by the diuretic conivaptan. Antidiurétique hormone is a hormone produced in a region of the brain called the hypothalamus. It is then stored and released by the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain. Diabetes insipidus central is caused by damage to the hypothalamus or the pituitary gland as a result of surgery, infection, tumor or head injury.
